I was born in West Ham Maternity Home, the eldest of twins – by three hours – and the fourth of six children, four boys and two girls. My first eleven years were spent in Manor Park, East Ham, before the firm Dad worked for relocated to Swindon. Seven years were passed there, then another move brought us to Aylesbury. There I worked first for Bucks County Council, then for Aylesbury District Council, until at last I discerned a vocation. Because we were living in Northampton diocese, it seemed logical for me to offer my services there. Five and a half years were spent at Oscott College in Sutton Coldfield, and six months in Corby as a deacon, before I was ordained priest at St Joseph’s Church, Aylesbury, on 21 June 1986 by Bishop Frank Thomas. My first parish as an assistant priest was at St Gregory’s, Northampton, four years later I continued my curacy at St Augustine’s, High Wycombe. Another five years passed, then Bishop Leo McCartie appointed me parish priest at St Thomas More, Towcester. I was there for just over three years before once again Bishop Leo approached me and I moved to Christ the King Ecumenical Church, Milton Keynes (not to be confused with Christ the Cornerstone), plus a year later St Bede’s, Newport Pagnell. Six years down the line and I arrived at Sacred Heart, Leighton Buzzard, another twelve and I find myself at Sacred Heart, Flitwick, as well. The story so far …
